"In 2008, you gave more than dollars....you gave
HOPE"
Below are highlights from SSM Health Center programs
that were directly funded by grants
made possible by
the Karen Weidinger Foundation
in 2008.
- Over 370 uninsured or underinsured women (100 more than 2007) have
received breast health services this year at the SSM St. Joseph facilities.
- “Let’s
Talk Woman to Woman” breast cancer awareness event held in September – largest ever with over 175 in
attendance.
- Opened new St. Joseph Hospital West Cancer Center and Women’s Imaging Center in November.
- Held holiday party for breast cancer and prostate cancer
patients – 40 people attended.
- Created a “Karen Weidinger Foundation”
information area in the new Hospital West Cancer Resource Center.
- Distributed “quillos” (a unique quilt/pillow
combination), camisoles and wigs to breast cancer patients, courtesy of the
KWF.
- Over 800 people have been directly impacted by KWF funded programs
and services in 2008!
New Programs and Services
- Beginning individual counseling program for cancer patients utilizing
a licensed psychotherapist as well as continued dietary consultations.
- Recruiting a yoga instructor for cancer patients in the new
cancer center.
- Providing incentives for patients to participate in genetic
testing (eg. Gas cards to help with travel to SLU).
All
this has been made possible through the generosity of so many people and we
want to thank each and every one of them.
Together, we really can make a difference!
